It happened again. I got a client call who claimed to have a laptop they they took to "a large chain PC store" He took it in because of a broken power plug. When he picked it up they were trying to force him to by some new Antivirus software to replace Norton because the computer was infected with a specific virus and some addtional spyware.
He managed to get the pc away from the techs and decided to have me look at it instead.
After running all of my usuall Free Antivirus and AntiMalware (Malwarebytes, Ad-Aware, Spybot, Windows Defender, Clam AV, AVG antivurus and a few other minor scans) The virus and spamware that they claimed was on the pc was NO WHERE to be found. And get this... There was no Norton software installed in the first place so whey were they going to replace it?
In this case it seems that they tried to scare a customer into buying something that they normally wouldnt know if they even needed.
Anyway im just venting about why anyone still brings pcs to the big name store.
Thanks for listening.
